DISTRICT 3 RESIDENTS GOES TO “COURT WATCH” WITH COMMISSIONER LARRY JOHNSON AGAINST BLIGHTED PROPERTIES
GA-DeKalb: To curb the proliferation of blighted properties and slum landlords, District 3 residents are going to court to provide moral support to the Solicitor General’s office and Commissioner Larry Johnson in their efforts to combat the menace of blighted properties in the district. Georgia law authorizes the filing of abatement complaints against properties that have been deemed unfit for human habitation with unsanitary or unsafe conditions that endanger the public’s health or safety. The county seeks judicial permission to board-up and secure these vacant dwellings; remove all trash and debris; bring these properties into compliance. In 2017, a total of 50 cases were received, 35 IN REM Abatements were filed and awaiting dispositions.
Commissioner Larry Johnson is asking citizens to join him in court and show appreciation of our Magistrates who are working assiduously to dispose all these blighted cases, the Code Compliance Department and also to the Solicitor General’s office for expediting the process of bringing these cases to court. Residents who wishes to attend these hearings are encouraged to wear, Red, White or Blue.
The cases will be heard on February 15, 2018 at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM respectively in Court Room 2E at the Magistrate court located at 3630 Camp Circle Road Decatur, GA 30032.
