District 3 is home to Constitution Lake Park, which is perhaps the most unique nature preserve in the state. Not only is it a scenic location with a wide array of plant and wildlife, but the site itself has an interesting history. Purchased by the county in 2003, Constitution Lake Park is located nearby the county’s only ghost town (Constitution, GA) and visitors say it is a great place for hiking, birding and fishing. Once the site of a brickyard, the lakes were created when water filled the clay excavation pits. The production of bricks ceased 50 years ago and nature has since restored the space to a wetland habitat capable of sustaining birds, fish, wildlife, and a wide range of plant species.
